Two KNUST Students Under Police Custody

Must read

Two KNUST Students Under Police Custody: Recently, two students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are in a serious legal situation. Jerome Enyam and Ebenezer Adam, both second-year students, have been remanded into police custody. Their alleged crime? ‘Sextortion’; is a term unfamiliar to many, but one that carries significant legal implications. Let’s investigate the details and understand what led to this unfortunate circumstance.

Two KNUST Students Under Police Custody

The prosecution, led by D/SGT Robert Mensah, presented the case before the Takoradi Circuit Court, where the accused students faced charges under the Criminal Offenses Act and the Cyber Security Act. Their actions allegedly involved coercing and extorting a fellow student, Rhyndolf Owusu Hammond, with a compromising video.

According to the prosecution’s account, Jerome and Ebenezer, along with accomplices, obtained a video of Rhyndolf’s intimate moment with his girlfriend. This video, originally recorded by Rhyndolf himself, found its way to the accused’s possession through a chain of events involving Rhyndolf’s friend Ekow Wilson. Without Rhyndolf’s consent, the accused allegedly harassed, threatened, and demanded money from him to prevent the video’s release on social media platforms.

The situation escalated when the accused, under disguise, sent a text message to Rhyndolf, demanding a significant sum of money to prevent the video’s dissemination. Rhyndolf, upon receiving the message, alerted his father, who promptly involved the authorities. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Jerome and Ebenezer and the retrieval of the incriminating video from their possession.

Conclusion

The case of Jerome Enyam and Ebenezer Adam underscores the serious consequences of engaging in illegal activities, especially those involving coercion and extortion. As members of the academic community, it’s essential for students to uphold ethical standards and respect the rights and privacy of their peers. The legal ramifications of ‘sextortion’ are severe, and incidents like these serve as reminders of the importance of responsible conduct both online and offline. Let this be a cautionary tale for all, emphasizing the need for integrity, empathy, and adherence to the law.
