NSS and KNUST’s New Initiative: Good news to all NSS personnel on knust campus. In an interesting move, the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have released news related to a new strategic initiative aimed at bettering their long-lasting collaboration. This will help improve the experience of national service personnel and improve the contribution of the university to national development.

NSS and KNUST’s New Initiative

During a courtesy call by Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi on Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice-Chancellor, KNUST, there was a reminder of the long years of association between the two institutions and affirming the mutual gains of the collaboration to explore new areas of collaboration.

One of the key benefits of the proposed collaboration is the setting up of an NSS office on the KNUST campus. According to Mr. Antwi, this would make work easier for the NSS personnel, who now have to struggle with travelling to district offices of the scheme to submit evaluation forms.

This shall streamline most of the administrative procedures that have been a drain on the NSS person’s time in the past. The assurance that the due allowances would be improved “on time” would also play a leading role in avoiding any panic from the heads of NSS concerning national service personnel, and improve on forecasting the number of graduates that would be ready at their disposal thereby minimizing skills mismatch.”

KNUST and NSS to Deepen Collaborative Efforts

The NSS boss also revealed that research into the data on the patterns and demands of the emerging “Job Market” will be done to help structure the training and deployment of the personnel to meet the demands of the job market.
To affirm the relationship, Mr. Antwi proposed that the MoU be drafted in the broad subject areas which include agricultural engineering, sports science, accounting, and business. It will act as the template agreement between the two organizations.
Lastly, the Ashanti Regional NSS Director, Prince Kankam Boadu, appealed to the university to support the Board of the NSS on their orientation program for the national service personnel because the one organized by the university saw in attendance a massive number of service personnel at the Great Hall that is unprecedented.

At the meeting, NSS leaders made a presentation of NSS’s National Service Policy (2024-2034) to Professor Dickson. In reaction, the Vice-Chancellor lauded NSS as a significant component within the university setup and said there was a need for the proposed MoU to have imbibed some clause and spirit—even in its draft stage—of close collaboration for seamless implementation of new initiatives. She assured that KNUST would continue to support NSS in enhancing their systems and providing essential support to graduates.
