KNUST’s Partnership with PMI Ghana: Bridging Theory and Practice

Must read

KNUST’s Partnership with PMI Ghana: The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is collaborating with the Project Management Institute-Ghana to enhance learning and practical exposure to project management. This will bridge gaps between theoretical and practical knowledge in business regarding this specific area, therefore benefiting students and the larger community of project managers.

KNUST’s Partnership with PMI Ghana

Noting the necessity of theory combined with practical experience, KNUST has gone a step further to partner with the PMI-Ghana. On behalf of KNUST, the Vice-Chancellor, who is Professor Mrs. Rita Dickson, signed the partnership agreement, while on the part of the institute, it was Dr. Frank Owusu-Asamoah, President of the PMI-Ghana. This is being managed at KNUST through its Department of Construction and Technology Management with the aim of delivering high-quality project management education from undergraduate to master’s levels.

Professor Mrs. Rita Dickson emphasized KNUST’s commitment to the MoU, ensuring that students receive top-tier training to meet the demands of both local and international markets. The importance of this collaboration is underscored by a recent survey showing that governments worldwide lose about 100 million dollars for every billion spent on physical projects due to unprofessional practices and incompetence.

Though relatively new to the Ghanaian educational scene, Project Management is now increasingly making strides. The move is therefore to get more students attracted to this valuable program and turn out graduates ready to face the challenge of working in a global job. This plan envisions turning out well-trained professionals who demonstrate integrity and efficiency in executing projects both in theory and practice.

KNUST is the second Ghanaian institution to partner with PMI-Ghana, following a similar agreement with GIMPA. Dr. Frank Owusu-Asamoah highlighted the goal of these partnerships: to cultivate a new generation of project management professionals who can deliver ethical and high-quality project execution and consultancy services. This will not only save costs but also enhance the overall effectiveness of project implementation.

Conclusion

The partnership between KNUST and PMI-Ghana, therefore, becomes an important milestone toward advancing project management education in Ghana. This will prepare graduates to face the global job market, meeting the needs of production with prepared minds; a factor expected to reduce graduate unemployment and boost economic development. This sets a very bright precedent for what future collaborative efforts between academia and industry leaders will do.
