KNUST HELICOPTERS HALTED BY GHANA REVENUE AUTHORITY

Must read

KNUST HELICOPTERS HALTED BY GHANA REVENUE AUTHORITY: PHI Century Limited has donated two helicopters to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (knust) mainly for the Aerospace department. The gifts were given to the department to be used for their practical lessons making the training of young aeronautical engineering students more like a real-life experience. The sad news is, that KNUST might not be able to use the donations for now due to some thousands of cedis tax on the two helicopters given by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

KNUST HELICOPTERS HALTED BY GHANA REVENUE AUTHORITY

Ghana Revenue Authority insists that KNUST should make full payment before they will release the two helicopters to them. The two helicopters are not airworthy anymore.
The two helicopters were imported to Ghana by a joint effort between PHI Aviation and Century Company Limited for transportation to offshore drilling rigs and production platforms at Cape Three Points in the Western Region. Before the importation of the two helicopters to Ghana, they were rated tax-free since they were supposed to be exported once they had accomplished their duties in Ghana.
PHI Century offered them as gifts to KNUST instead of exporting them to the US because the two helicopters have aged. And also these are equipment that the new School of Aeronautical Studies at KNUST will benefit greatly since they are going to use them for their practical lessons.

KNUST HELICOPTERS HALTED BY GHANA REVENUE AUTHORITY

I think PHI Century chose to give it to KNUST over gifting it to an aviation school in the US for practical purposes.
The Ghana Revenue Authority is demanding that KNUST make full payment of some thousands of cedis before the two helicopters will be given to them for their academic purposes.
This decision by the Ghana Revenue Authority may cause some delay in the use of the equipment since staff may have to sit down to conclude whether they can pay the tax or not. And at the end, this delay may go against some students.
